Compatibility of edited gerber files

Postby chashb » Wed Apr 30, 2014 7:10 am

We recently purchased Pentalogix Deluxe at my company with the intent of gaining the ability to edit text information on prototype silkscreen gerber layer files that we intend to release to production. This part was easy to figure out. What I've noticed, however, is that I cannot open the edited gerber silkscreen layer file with any other gerber viewer tool I've tried after editing. Before editing the silkscreen gerber layer file I was able to open it with anyone's free gerber viewer tool. Long story short, I've got to be able to edit/add text to silkscreen files while still maintaining compatibility with all standard gerber viewers. Is there something I can do here or do I have to abandon using Pentalogix for editing silkscreen gerber text?

You should be able to do what you are describing without any problem.
Perhaps the setup for your export is not right?
At any rate, when faced with problems like these, just email You should also attach the exported file that is problematic so we can take a look.
