How to create ground/power planes

Postby duffer1960 » Tue Apr 12, 2011 12:38 pm

I have a couple issues I am working on, one being how to create a ground plane. I have a semirandom shape I need to fill with copper and don't know where to start. I know it has to be simple, but I can't figure it out. The manual and Help files say to select BUILD COUNOUR from the tools menu. There is NO BUILD CONTOUR in my tools menu. Also, this plane has a pew pins that are connected to it, and several that are not that it must flow around. Any help is appreciated.

There are two ways to generate planes:
(1) Fill your shapes with drawn traces.
(2) Convert your shape outline to a polygon, which will become solid copper.

(1) Is available in "Tools" in ViewMatePro and higher
(2) Can be done in ViewMate Deluxe or higher

The result of method (2) is the the one preferred, because it generates cleaner data and fewer elements. However, to flow copper around pads or other elements using method (2) requires converting those to polygons also and adding them as "holes" to your outer shape.

I you email "support@pentalogix.com" a sample file, we can send you directions as to what best to do.

Thank you. I will send the file we are working on; it is fairly simple.
